Successful Weekend for Jr Ice Wolves

Alexa Hoskin scored twice in a 2:01 span in the final five minutes of the game to pull the Kingston Jr. Ice Wolves from a 3-2 deficit and push them to a 4-3 win — their franchise-record third straight — over the Brampton Canadettes in Provincial Women's Hockey League action Sunday afternoon at the Invista Centre.

The win also gave the Ice Wolves a team-best fourth consecutive game in which they have gained points. They lost in overtime prior to beginning their three-game winning string.

The Ice Wolves, with a 4-3-0-2 record and off to their best start in five seasons in the league, are tied with the Toronto Aeros (5-2-0-0) for seventh place.

The Ice Wolves led 2-0 after the first period, with Carissa Walker netting her first goal of the season and Brianna Gaffney her second. Gaffney, the franchise leader in career games (156), goals (30), assists (36), points (66) and penalty minutes (152), also added three assists in the game for a four-point performance.

Brampton, however, scored three straight times, and wound up ahead 3-2 by just past the 11-minute mark of the third. Ellie Sasaki scored power-play goals at 10:34 of the second period and 5:56 go the third to tie the game before Megan Hurrell's marker at 11:04 put the Canadettes in front, 3-2.

Hoskin did the ultimate damage for the Ice Wolves beginning at 15:29, with her first of two goals, to make it a 3-3 game. Just 2:01 later, she broke the tie and gave Kingston its win.

Hoskin (5G, 5A) and Gaffney (2G, 8A) lead the team with 10 points apiece.

Kingston outshot Brampton 41-23 in the game. Kathryn Jalink made 20 stops in the Kingston goal as she picked up her third win in six starts.

After their brief two-game home stand, the Ice Wolves hit the road on Saturday and Sunday for a pair of games — Saturday against the Aeros at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday in Brampton against the (0-6-1-0) Canadettes at 2:15 p.m.
